SETHIRDGEN'S Featured Ride for June:

Mike Meyer's  1990 Camaro IROC

This month's Featured Ride comes "straight from the horses mouth".  Mike chose to narrate for his own car, so here it is!  Enjoy.

"Having owned my 1990 IROC since new, I have a lot I could tell, but I'll keep my story short.  It has taken me through thick and thin and it has outlasted two wives.  My "significant other" has nicknamed it "POS."  The Charlotte performance shop, More Performance, which does a lot of my work, thinks it is possessed and it could get the lead part in a Christine sequel.  All I have to say to them is, "when it runs, it runs good."

As Delivered in Stuttgart, Germany 8/90: 1990 IROC-Z, Bright Red, LB9, 5-speed, G92 Performance rear axle: dual catalytic converters, 4 wheel discs, BW 9 bolt w/3.45s.

Current Modifications:

Engine: I have 20k miles on these mods:

ZZ4 short block, Fluidampr damper, Hamburger double roller timing chain. Crane 2032HR cam 214°/220°, .452"/.465" lift @ .050 Very mild cam.   Stewart Stage I water pump, Hypertech 175° fan switch, 160° Tstat, Too cold.   ASP pulleys, and OEM radiator.

Trick Flow G1 Twisted Wedge heads with mild porting.  Actually tried 1.6 RRs but the pushrods rubbed so bad I switched back to the 1.5s.  SOTP it ran a lot stronger.  Comp Cams valve springs, Crane 1.52 Gold Race rockers, CV pushrods, LT1 center bolt valve covers. Mine were trashed and that was all I could find at the last minute.

SLP runners, TPIS 52mm TB. This rebore is a POS.  Don't buy one of these.   Big Mouth manifold, relocated MAT sensor, ported plenum, Crane AFPR, and GM 24lb injectors, K&N air filters, SLP 1 ¾" headers and stainless cat-back.   MSD coil and 8.5mm wires, NGK V-Groove FR5 plugs, "modified" Ed Wright chip. Local Ford chip guy added 15 more ponies to it. If he knew what he was doing I'm sure he could have found more.

Drivetrain: Borg Warner T-5 Amazing thing is it has survived 20k miles behind my ZZ4.  Centerforce Dual Friction clutch. 1LE drive shaft.  Borg Warner 9 Bolt with 3.45 gears.  It makes noise, but it is still running.

Front/Rear Suspension: PST poly bushings, Koni Red adjustable struts and shocks, Edelbrock springs.  These dropped my ride about 1.5"

Brakes: Baer 12" Sport brakes in front with factory PBR for the rears.  With Baers, the hotter they get, the better they stop.

Wheels and tires: OEM 16" with BFG Comp ZR in 245/50/ZR16.

Paint: Sikkens BC/CC GM5353 Bright Red. This is a Geo Storm color. Body-colored headlight openings and door handles.  RS hood for a cleaner look.

Other Goodies: Hurst Billet shifter w/B&M knob.

Dyno: 268 rwhp @4800 and 350 rwtq @ 3200 rpm.  Not real happy with these numbers, but it will run with a '00 SS M6 Vert.  When I can finally get it all dialed in, feel that I'll find a few more ponies lurking in there."  -Mike Hafkemeyer

Excellent ride Mike!
