The old workbench needed a refresh so I gave it the white and gold treatment. Four coats of polyurethane should make it durable enough, even from my abuse.

Started tearing down my free 427. #7 cylinder definitely needs a sleeve. And it will need a set of pistons, 2 of them are beat up. I think this thing was cobbled together with whatever was laying around. Good thing it only ran for a few minutes.

Well, the sleeve part sucks. It's funny to think about a time when no one gave so much as a second thought to a 427 and just threw whatever was laying around into the thing. I'm sure that anyone who would have claimed that what amounted to nothing but just another hunk of iron would be worth a fortune someday would have been unanimously declared to have been a damn fool!

I still can't complain, the price was right - free!

I know this, I will have a lot less in it than the 454 in my 72'.

Always liked 427's for some reason. Growing up, I always heard the 427's were the thing to have, and the 454's were dump truck motors. I know better today, but I still like then.

Did some much needed cleaning and organizing of the garage. Installed the larger SUV rear brakes on my truck. (They work! Surprised me a little today) And, started building the engine mounts in the vw. Running into some issues with the steering box/linkage. Kind of cramped in that area.

Huh? You're working on a Volkswagen? What did I miss in this thread?

I need to find a new image hosting service...

It's what is left of a 74' super beetle. On a box tube frame, hand formed steel cowl. 40' ford dash, tops of the 1/4s are pieces of 28' Chevrolet front fenders, sides are sheet metal. It basically resembles a fenderless 32' ford roadster. Has a 305/th350 with a B&M 144ci roots blower.

It's a mongrel of sorts, built from parts of eleventeen different cars. But, the build was started by a friend of my father's who passed away last year. His widow contacted us, want us to finish it and drive it.

Gary's vision was slightly different from my fathers... he was going to run the vw transaxle hooked to an electric motor.

Well that's certainly the most interesting project I have heard of you working on.

That it is. If not for my dad, I would have nothing to do with it. Just a big go kart to me.
